In 2005, our EAM solutions provided Metronet Rail with a single, consistent view of its assets; a first in the history of the London Underground.
The Challenge
When Metronet took over responsibility for a large part of the London Underground network on 4th April 2003, it inherited hundreds of different information systems, ranging from 150 Information Technology Systems to pieces of paper. Under its Public Private Partnership (PPP) contract with London Underground, Metronet were required to unify these systems into a central asset information system within two years. Even if this had not been part of the PPP contract, it would have been immediately obvious that this would be a vital tool in Metronet’s investment planning over the next 30 years.

Metronet Rail with the necessary cultural change amongst its staff
The Solution AMT-SYBEX's EAM solution - Ellipse, the only EAM software designed for asset intensive companies, has provided Metronet Rail with its first ever single consistent view of its assets and maintenance activities – the first of its kind in the history of London Underground.
AMT-SYBEX's solution has enabled Metronet Rail to change and unify its business processes and has assisted Metronet Rail with the necessary cultural change amongst its staff; it was considered that the programme embraced some 70% business change compared with 30% systems implementation. Metronet’s Programme Manager, David Harmsworth remarked: “Ellipse is not first and foremost an I.T project; it is a business change programme, which will play a crucial role in helping people decide how the business should be managed to meet its objectives.”
