Our Work and Asset Management (WAM) solution is a key component in enabling National Grid to become a world class transmission owner.
The Challenge
The WAM Project is a key component in National Grid Electricity Transmission’s Staying Ahead Programme. The programme is a business vision for the company to become a world-class transmission owner, generating shareholder value from both the core and new business.
This is being achieved through the use of a model that can be replicated internationally. Critical to National Grid’s objective was a complete and accurate understanding of the company’s asset base, its performance, costs and the risks presented by different operational strategies.
Coherent risk assessment systems - for asset management and programme delivery processes - were key to enabling more effective use of field force resources and data capture for the company. This in turn required rationalisation of numerous asset-data applications into one primary asset repository.
National Grid’s asset repository was also required to integrate with a number of key management systems including: a Geographic Information System (GIS), an outage management system and Microsoft Project. An emphasis was placed on the ability to “collect data once and use many times”.
National Grid’s final requirement was a solution with the ability to plan all work and asset management activities across the company.

The Solution
Following a strategic review of their operations, National Grid decided that an extension of their existing Asset Register and Work Management System - originally delivered by AMT-SYBEX in 1993, would provide the optimal solution.
The solution provides complete visibility of asset management information, and fully integrates business processes, across all levels of the organisation. In addition, it is the only enterprise resource planning (ERP) solution purpose-built for asset intensive companies.
