Mobile Working

The available technologies in the mobile arena now offer a proven way for organisations to increase their flexibility when faced with changes in business process. Organisations are now recognising that mobility actually works, and is critical when enabling business process for the remote worker. From creating a parking ticket to recording the condition of pylons in the field, numerous organisations are replacing the traditional ‘paper-chain’ with mobile working solutions that maximise efficiency and effectiveness of everyday business processes.

Mobilising the workforce is now contributing to companies’ successes.  It is enabling business strategy to be automated and executed effectively.  Organisations are focussing on becoming fast and efficient at enabling the business process itself in the form of applications, access to data, and workflow.

The idea of anywhere-anytime connectivity, is becoming realistic. The ability of mobile workers to interact directly with customers without the need to return to the office is delivering effectiveness and efficiency at the point of work, as well as efficiencies in the back office.

Today, mobile solutions are better understood.  Most sophisticated organisations have a mobile strategy that begins with the needs of the remote worker and puts in place the infrastructure and systems to support the business process at the user end. These link seamlessly to back-office systems as appropriate.  The primary focus is to provide a mechanism for executing key business processes outside the constraints of the enterprise, and without the need for permanent connectivity.

Our Experience

We are specialist mobile solution provider and systems integrator with a strong client base built on a successful, proven delivery capability.

Since our formation in 1990, we have delivered solutions to field focussed industries. Initially working in the Utilities, Transport and Energy Retail sectors providing business critical solutions to support both front and back office functions.  We have since extended our expertise to deliver solutions in Government, Construction, and Enforcement.

Our full end-to-end mobility solutions have been developed around a unique “outside in” approach to making mobile working work - focussing on fieldworker requirements, business processes, and then systems.

To date we have implemented 20+ mobile solutions in large organisations such as EDF Energy, Southern Water, Network Rail, National Grid, London Underground, Transport for London (TfL), and the Metropolitan Police.

In many cases our solutions include the provision of a Managed Service for our customers. Each managed service, is tailored to our customer's specific needs.

 Product

1 AMT-SYBEX FDCS
®

Our FDCS® (Field Data Collection System) was first released in 2001 and is now the leading mobility software product in the UK Utility market place.  With more than 16,000 licensed seats, the product provides a unique "intelligent scripting" approach to mobile data collection which has been recognised by our Utility customers as critical in the collection of varied data elements across a range of entities.  Within the Utility mobility market, FDCS® is prominent in the medium to large scale mobile implementations with some customers deploying thousands of mobile devices.

FDCS® continues to be developed as a complementary mobile product that operates in conjunction with back-office processes around Field Service, Asset Management, Work Management, Inspections, and Data Collection. More recent strategic development of the product has seen the technology embedded in third-party mobility solutions and OEM deployment is expected to be a significant contributor to future R&D efforts.

The FDCS® product is middleware neutral and has been implemented with middleware solutions from several different vendors. Most implementations of FDCS® within existing clients have involved integration with back-office systems ranging from direct Work and Asset Management integration (e.g. with Mincom’s Ellipse) to more extensive (EAI/ESB) based integration using dedicated middleware tools.  We have a number of implementations where FDCS® has been deployed integrated with mobile GIS to provide a map-centric user experience, and are currently engaged in an integration within the Scheduling and Optimisation arena.

1.1 SAP®

We have been working closely with SAP® to develop a mobile proposition that positions our software, particularly the “intelligent scripting” functionality, as part of SAP’s vision for Enterprise Mobility as well as enhancing the existing SAP MAM and MAU applications. Joint Application Design (JAD) has already been undertaken to define how our software will operate as part of the SAP mobile infrastructure and work on the Powered by NetWeaver phase of the software roadmap is near to completion.

Mike Lewis of SAP, industry principal Utilities, has commented that “AMT-SYBEX is a key partner for SAP in the utilities market, developing complementary solutions using SAP NetWeaver.

STRATEGY

We provide a low-risk, cost-effective approach to performing strategic mobile reviews for our clients. This includes a structured and robust business review together with supporting business benefits, detailing investment required, efficiencies and where beneficial, leveraging off existing mobility solutions already implemented across the business.

Our skills combine the business experience and consultancy expertise necessary to undertake such a review with supporting knowledge and expertise of the technology, with the objective of enhancing the value organisations gain from mobility investment.

Our reviews typically focus on two elements:

  • to review a business strategy and to deliver a supporting mobile strategy or
  • to review an existing mobile strategy to ensure it is meeting a customer's strategic objectives.

Each review is tailored to the specific needs of the particular customer.
